The secret is out ladies! Today, I bring you a list of true beauty secrets; the things celebrities never actually admit to. I’ve often thought that having a model for a best friend should serve some purpose other than making me constantly feel ‘not-quite-as-pretty’. Well, I’ve finally found the upside to my situation and I’m sharing it with you, in the form of a list of juicy titbits that can explain those perfect images we see in magazines. Best of all, these are tips we can all benefit from ourselves and none of them will involve an appointment at laser hair removal east midlands!
Here are 5 things they don’t tell you;
1 Suck it in
This works like a charm. In fact, I dare any model who has ever had to pose in a swimsuit to challenge me on this. Every single person who has had to expose their midriff to public scrutiny has sucked it in. Even those who don’t really need to do it tend to do it anyway. It’s human nature, after all! So don’t feel like you’re cheating when you do it too! In fact, there is scientific evidence to prove that good posture and regularly holding in your stomach actually help build the abdominal muscles. After a while it becomes so natural that one no longer has to consciously ‘suck it in’. And there you go; a flat stomach with minimal exercise! Ta-da!
2 Stick it on
My best friend (let’s just call her Jasmine) is the queen of double sided adhesive tape. That’s how she manages to wear those insanely low v-necks without having everything fall out. That’s how she ensures that her strapless bra doesn’t move. That’s how she does emergency repairs if her hem rips. Buy some double sided tape, safety pins and adhesive Velcro and you hold the solution to all possible wardrobe malfunctions. But we aren’t just talking about wardrobe malfunctions here; nails, hair, cleavage and eyelashes… in the world of glitz and glamour the one thing you know for sure is that everything is an illusion. So if you don’t have it naturally, stick it on!
3 Shape it up
Listen up ladies. This is no secret, but it seems to me that some people are still in the dark about the importance of eyebrows. They frame your face. They really do! This cannot be overstated; if your eyebrows are a mess your face automatically looks messy. Jasmine usually looks like a very pretty woman, but when she enhances the shape of her eyebrows, suddenly she starts looking like a model! So whether you trim them, pluck them, wax them or thread them, by any means necessary, shape those eyebrows! And for women like me, who weren’t blessed with bountiful eyebrows, don’t hesitate to use some brown or black eye shadow (depending on your complexion) or an eyebrow pencil and pencil them in. It’s like magic. I swear to you, just this year I’ve had 3 different men compliment me on my eyebrows!
4 Squeeze it in
Nobody has the time for exercise. Celebrities do it because looking good is part of their job description, but ordinary people like you and me have to squeeze it into our busy schedules. Fortunately for me, Jasmine has taught me some easy ways to get some exercise, even though I don’t have a personal trainer or gym membership. It seems simple, but taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or taking the bicycle instead of the car can make an enormous difference. I only learned to ride a bicycle last year (yes I was born on another planet) and the change in my legs is plain to see. I take pleasure in cleaning the house or gardening now, because I hope to work up a sweat while doing it. I turn on some music while I cook and dance in the kitchen – and who cares if it looks a little silly? It’s a great way to burn some calories before eating. When Jasmine eats, it all goes straight to her hips and derriere, so she has developed the habit of squeezing her gluteal muscles (those are the muscles of the bum) while doing random activities like sitting in a waiting room or watching TV. It’s a simple little workout, but yes, it really works!
5 Push it up
Unless you’ve recently had breast augmentation surgery, you have a good excuse for not having gravity-defying breasts. Large breasts are simply not meant to stand at attention forever. Furthermore, contrary to what you may believe, many women actually do have small breasts. It’s nothing to worry about; that’s why A and B cups were invented! Nowadays there are many solutions for women who aren’t happy with their bust size or shape. So, unless you’re saving up for cosmetic surgery, invest in a few good bras. Go to a good lingerie store and experiment with different bra sizes and styles. You might surprise yourself. Most women don’t actually know their true bra size, and wear bras which are just a bit too big or small. A little change can mean all the difference. And remember, we all do it! You’re not cheating; you’re bringing yourself up to speed with all the other women in the race.
